Assistant County Manager Christina Wells has been selected to serve as the deputy county manager, beginning the role on February 15.

“Coming to work for Halifax County has truly been a homecoming,” said Wells. “I am a proud Halifax County native, and I truly love our people, amazing communities, rich history and culture, and many beautiful, natural resources. I am so proud to transition into the role of deputy county manager and to continue to work with the dedicated and hard-working management team, departments, and employees of Halifax County.”

Wells, originally from Roanoke Rapids, has spent the last three-and-a-half years with Halifax County, beginning her service as senior management analyst in June 2020 and then as assistant county manager in November 2021.

“I’m excited to promote Christina to deputy county manager,” said County Manager Dia Denton. “She is well-respected by her colleagues and local officials. Her familiarity with Halifax County and extensive experience make her the perfect fit for this position.”

Prior to her work with the county, Wells’ career was primarily non-profit in nature.

She led the Lake Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce as president/CEO from July 2013-June 2020, was the director of tourism development and marketing from August 2006-July 2013 and the eco-heritage tourism manager of the Roanoke Canal Museum and Trail from August 2005-August 2006 with the Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau. She served as the Work First coordinator with the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce from June 2001-August 2005, and worked in Eastern NC as the senior community cancer control manager with the American Cancer Society from February 1999- June 2001.

Wells is the daughter of the late Carl Peoples and Norma Peoples, both also natives of Halifax County.

She and her husband Bruce reside in the town of Halifax as empty-nesters with their cats Quigley and Bob.
