Roanoke Rapids police continue to seek the whereabouts of a man who late Wednesday was reported missing by the North Carolina Center for Missing Persons.

Chief Shane Guyant said 71-year-old Edwin Collins had been missing for about four hours before police were contacted. The center issued a silver alert at the police department’s request around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Guyant said there is still no word on a direction of travel or possible destination. The center said it is believed Collins suffers from dementia or Alzheimer’s.

Collins stands 5-6 and weighs approximately 165 pounds. He has medium-length hair in an Afro style and has brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing khaki pants, a black and white short-sleeved shirt and red sneakers.

He was reported missing from 327 Webb Hill Road and is possibly traveling on foot.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police department at 252-533-2810, call 911 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
