Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following:

Roanoke Rapids Police Department

Wednesday around 10:30 p.m. Detective C. Batchelor was in the area of highways 158 and 48 when he observed drug activity taking place and conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle involved. He talked with the driver, Travonta Whitaker, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, and subsequently conducted a search of the vehicle.

Chief Bobby Martin said Batchelor located 1.5 grams of cocaine and items of drug paraphernalia including a set of digital scales. A later search revealed that Whitaker was in possession of 48 oxycodone pills and 5.6 grams of marijuana.

Whitaker was charged with two counts of possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule II, possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance. 

He received a $75,000 bond and December 16 court date.

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office

Chief Deputy Scott Hall reported that on November 15 deputies took a report for a vehicle larceny from the Little Deep Creek Road area of Roanoke Rapids. 

After investigation by Detective A.C. Wood warrants were obtained on Princess Lavern Pitt, 46, of Roanoke Rapids, for larceny of a motor vehicle and obtaining property under false pretenses. On November 24 at approximately 5 p.m. deputies D. Bybee and J. Pignanello  located and stopped the stolen vehicle near the 2000 block of Roanoke Avenue.

Pitt was located as a passenger in the vehicle and was arrested and taken before a magistrate where she was served the outstanding warrants as well as a warrant for felony possession of stolen goods for being in possession of the stolen vehicle. 

Pitt received a $10,000 secured bond and December 16 court date.
