Parker is no stranger to the district having worked here from 1996-2006.
Parker has 43 years experience in public education.
Over the past few years he worked as an education consultant training principals and working with schools and districts interested in developing new curriculum structures to better prepare students for today’s jobs and their educational pursuits.
“I’m excited to be back, and plan to maintain the progress being made here in the district,” said Parker.
Board Chair Jay Carlisle and other board members welcomed Dr. Parker and his wife June following the board’s vote.
“I feel like we’re in good hands,” said Carlisle. “We’re still in discussion with county commissioners regarding the plans to build a new Manning Elementary School and progressing with our athletic complex. Over the next few weeks we’ll bring Dr. Parker up to speed so we can continue to move forward.”
The district is working with the North Carolina School Boards Association to permanently fill the vacancy left by Dennis Sawyer’s departure. July 8 is the deadline for applications. “We’re hoping to have someone in place by the end of the year,” Carlisle said.
Parker will assume the duties July 1.
