According to Chief Chuck Hasty, Officer Mark Peck responded to a call around 1 p.m. at Quail Court.
Peck learned that Johnson, 20, of Roanoke Rapids, took the victim's purse and ran away.
“Mr. Johnson is encouraged to turn himself to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department,” Hasty said in a statement.
