Nakeia R. Clark, 32, and Jabari I. Hargrove, 20, were both charged, him for reportedly hitting her and her for stabbing him with a box cutter, according to Gaston Police Sergeant Tommy Staton.
Staton and Northampton County Sheriff's Office Deputy A.B. Roye responded to 324 Craige Street shortly before 3 a.m. to find Hargrove covered in blood.
Staton described the fray as one fueled by alcohol and one that started over an altercation about Hargrove using Clark's vehicle and hitting a tree.
The parties, according to Staton, however, reportedly told officers the matter started off with playing, but got rough, the woman telling Hargrove to stop. She then reportedly bit him once and bit him a second time, him striking her in the face.
When he reportedly approached her again, Clark used a box cutter and stabbed Hargrove in the chest near the breastplate.
In the course of the investigation officers also found a loaded 38 under the seat of one of the vehicles parked in the yard. The weapon turned out to be stolen from Roanoke Rapids and was handed over to police there, Staton said, after no one at the Craige Street residence claimed knowledge to it.
Hargrove was charged with assault on a female while Clark was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Their injuries were not life-threatening. They were initially jailed without the opportunity for bond and later released.
Sergeant Jimmy Pair and Deputy Ashley Leitner assisted.
