Halifax County Sheriff's Office deputies Thursday night arrested a Roanoke Rapids man wanted for attempted murder in Northampton County.

Marcus Marco Avent, 28, faces a count of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon in a stabbing that occurred on Cal-Floyd Road in the Garysburg area Saturday.

Captain M.D. DeLoatch Sr. of the Northampton County Sheriff's Office said the stabbing occurred during a party when an argument began during an evening of drinking.

Avent allegedly stabbed the victim once in the abdomen with what was believed to be a knife.

Avent was developed as the alleged suspect in the case and was picked up at his residence in Roanoke Rapids, DeLoatch said.

He was jailed on $500,000 bond and awaits a January 8 court appearance.

“This is the kind of result you get when the community and law enforcement works together,” DeLoatch said in a statement.
