The Roanoke Rapids Fire Department, as of this report, was still investigating and doing cleanup following the blaze that collapsed the roof of the single-story house.
Greg Copeland, the owner, said he has family to stay with, but had no idea of what he needed as far as clothing.
The American Red Cross was on the scene to provide lodging, food and clothing for the family.
Heavy flames could be seen shooting from the roof of the house as winds carried smoke across the neighborhood. “There was so much damage that we're unable to determine a cause right now,” Deputy Chief Mike Clements said. “The roof dropped straight to the floor.”
Chief Stacy Coggins said the house sustained mainly fire damage and that the family lost a pet cat.
