Dominion Power continues to investigate the injury of contractor working at one of the company's substations in Roanoke Rapids this morning.

Bonita B. Harris, media and community relations manager for the company, said the contractor, who she declined to name, was doing maintenance work when the mishap occurred around 9:30 a.m.

He was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center.

First responders said the mishap occurred at the substation on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway near what is traditionally called Presto.

The contractor apparently sustained burns, although what degree is not known.

More than 3,600 customers lost power. Power was restored to 1,900 by switching to another source. A crew is currently working on restoring power to remainder of the customers. Repairs should be completed by 1 p.m., Harris said.
