Roanoke Rapids narcotics agents Wednesday arrested two people on heroin counts, one of them reportedly holding 20 bindles in his mouth.

The arrests of Deanna Martin, 29, and Tommie Plum, came just before 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Fourth and Franklin streets, Chief Andy Jackson said.

It was there agents Jamie Hardy and Corey Dixon allegedly observed a drug transaction.

Investigation led the agents to discover 20 dosage unit of heroins inside Plum's mouth, Jackson said. “It was a very dangerous situation. Some of the bindles had holes in the bag.”

Martin, of Monroe Street, faces charges of possession with intent sell and deliver heroin, maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance and one count of possession of schedule I.

Plum, of Madison Street, faces the same charges.

Martin was jailed on $2,000 secured bond while Plum received a $5,000 secured bond, his higher bond coming because he was allegedly hiding the heroin, Jackson said.
