Raymond Marlyn Faison

Raymond Marlyn Faison, 82, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Nash UNC Health Care in Rocky Mount. 

Marlyn was born November 20, 1931 in Halifax County.  He was a loving husband, father, Papa, great-granddaddy, uncle and friend.  

He was a charter member of the Davie Volunteer Fire Department, he also served as chairman of the Halifax County HEMSA Board.  

Marlyn retired from North Carolina Natural Gas after 30 years of dedicated service.  He was also a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Davie Lions Club.  He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, gardening, spending time with family, and cooking Brunswick Stew, which he was well known for.

In addition to his mother, Mertie Faison, he is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marlyn is survived by his wife of 57 years Katherine Stansbury Faison of the home; his daughter Carmen Faison-Brown and husband Ray of Battleboro; his son Jeff Faison and wife Sallie of Roanoke Rapids; his grandsons, Matthew Council and wife Sara of Vaughan; Gregory Council and wife Jessica; Scott Faison and Will Faison all of Roanoke Rapids; his great-granddaughter Claire Elizabeth Council and an expected great-grandson due in March.  He is also survived by his aunt, Alvorado Grooms Pearson; brother-in-law Roy Stansbury; and sisters-in-law Lovell Gray; Bessie Bennett; and Jean Stansbury, and  a number of nieces and nephews and his special companion Precious.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Randy Martin and Rev. Roy Porter officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, September 29, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home and all other times at the home of his son.
