The Northampton County Sheriff's Office reported the following over the weekend:

• On Sunday around 7 a.m. Deputy William James responded to the county jail about an assault.

The victim had to be transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center for treatment of the injuries, according to Captain Chuck Hasty.

James learned that the victim was allegedly assaulted by Dontay Pugh, 21 of Rich Square because of an earlier argument over the jail TV.

James arrested and charged Pugh with assault inflicting serious injury;.

Pugh was given a $5,000 bond and a court date of September 18.

The investigation is still ongoing.

• On Friday around 2 a.m. Deputy Patrick Jacobs responded to Family Lane in Gaston about a domestic dispute between brothers.

When Jacobs arrived at the residence he spoke with the mother who said that the disagreement was over cigarettes.

During the investigation Jacobs learned Reginald Johnson, 35, of Gaston was one of the brothers and had an outstanding order for his arrest.

Jacobs told Johnson he was under arrest because of the outstanding warrants, but Johnson refused to comply with a request to be handcuffed.

Johnson pulled away from Jacobs when he tried to handcuff him. Jacobs threatened the use of pepper spray and Johnson complied.

Johnson was arrested on the outstanding order for arrest and also charged with resist, delay and obstruct. He was given a $5,500 bond and a court date of September 29.
