A Virginia man was arrested today in a weekend Northampton County assault and on an at least three-year-old warrant from Halifax County.

Captain Chuck Hasty of the Northampton County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that around 7 a.m. Saturday, Sergeant Antwone Johnson and Investigator Courtney Williams responded to Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill. The response was about an assault that occurred in Northampton County and involved Dustin Fingleman, 32, of Bracey, Virginia.

The victim reportedly told Williams he and Fingleman had been drinking and riding four-wheelers off Camp Fire Trail in Gaston where the assault took place.

The victim sustained a laceration and bruising to the face, for which he was treated and released.

Williams obtained a warrant for Fingleman's arrest on assault inflicting serious injury. Fingleman, who was in Northampton County District Court for an unrelated matter, was arrested and also served a warrant from the Halifax County Sheriff's Office for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Lieutenant Joseph Sealey of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said the warrant was for a matter that occurred about three years ago where Fingleman allegedly ran over the victim with a vehicle on Sam Powell Dairy Road outside Roanoke Rapids.

He received a $3,000 bond on the Northampton County charge with an October 6 court date and a $75,000 bond on the Halifax County charge with a September 10 court date.

Lowe's Distribution Center Assault

Meanwhile Saturday, Hasty reported that around 10 a.m. Lieutenant Jason Boone responded to the Lowes Regional Distribution Center in Garysburg on an assault call.

The supervisor on duty told Boone a female victim was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries. At the hospital, Williams learned there was a disagreement between the victim and Ronald Taylor Jr., 28, of Aulander.

The victim was knocked unconscious and sustained a laceration to the head.

Taylor was charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury and given $10,000 bond. The victim was treated and released.
