Brown nominated Clements, the company's vice president, for the award, which was presented by the Department of Defense and Kenneth R. Oppenheim, a retired navy commander.
The award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.
Several of the company's employees have prior military service, the company said in a news release. They are Clements, LaVern Wiltrout, Steve Heath, Rock Edwards, Edward Neal, Joel Ingram, and Gary Miller. “Weldon Steel Corporation is extremely proud to be able to support military employees,” the company said. “Our corporate motto says it all: Exceeding expectations.”
Brown has to attend drill one weekend a month and a two-week annual training summer camp each year.
She also attended a military training for one month that was for her current Military Occupational Specialty.
