Halifax and Northampton county sheriff's office investigators overnight raided a room at the New Yorker Motel, seizing heroin, marijuana, crack and Hydrocodone.

The raid occurred just after 9 p.m. at the motel located off Highway 301 outside Weldon, Lieutenant Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Uniformed deputies from Halifax, its Hazardous Entry Team, narcotics investigators and Northampton criminal investigators assisted in the search warrant execution.

The raid netted two arrests and the seizure of 17.26 grams of heroin that included 23 bindles packaged for sale; three bags of marijuana and approximately .26 grams of crack cocaine. Two dosage units of Hydrocodone, several smoking devices and a small-caliber handgun were also seized.

The search warrant executed at room 102 was a result of the two agencies sharing information about narcotics reportedly being stored and sold from the room, Harris said. “Through the efforts of the two sheriffs’ offices working together and through the surveillance and investigation conducted by Agent D.R. Radford, Radford (of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office) applied for a search warrant and it was granted.”

Barrett

Radford arrested and charged Deavon Era Barrett, 31, with simple possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Green

Joseph Arnold Green, 50, was charged with maintaining a dwelling, simple possession of marijuana, felony possession of cocaine, trafficking heroin, possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, simple possession of schedule III and possession of drug paraphernalia. Street value of the heroin seized was approximately $8,500.

Green was given a $50,000 secured bond. Barrett was given a $5,000 secured bond and both were confined at the Halifax County Detention Center. Both were given a May 7, 2014 court date.

“This investigation was a team approach by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office and Halifax County Sheriff’s Office,” Harris said in the statement. “Both sheriff’s Offices are working proactively to rid our communities of the illegal narcotic sales.”
