The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance in identifying an individual who allegedly attempted to pass a counterfeit $20 bill at the Three Flags convenience store in Weldon March 31.

Detective J.M. Clark said the man, who was caught on videotape earlier in the day, but did not try to pass a bill, recruited someone outside the store to go in and buy some things for him, while offering to buy the man outside the store a beer.

When the clerk marked the bill, he discovered it was bogus.

The man in the store video was seen driving a sport utility vehicle of unknown color and make.

There is nothing thus far in Clark's investigation to suggest the man who was recruited to go inside the store knew the bill was counterfeit.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
