A November 8 scam that played upon the victim's faith bilked $8,300 from their bank account, according to Roanoke Rapids police.

While the suspects are not known to be dangerous, they will approach an unsuspecting person asking for directions, then carry on a conversation that is of a religious nature and mention receiving a large settlement from the death of a family member, according to a memo from Detective Jeff Davis.

Eventually, an attempt is made to have a potential victim withdraw a large amount of money, promising the money will return in a larger amount as a show of the victim’s faith.

Davis said police don't believe the scammers are local but are possibly part of a ring of hucksters traveling throughout the area.

Roanoke Rapids is seeking the identity and whereabouts of two black males and a black female in connection with the scheme.

One of the male subjects is in his early to mid-thirties, about 5-feet, 10-inches tall and of average weight. The second male subject is shorter with dark skin and speaks with what is believed to be an African accent.

The female is well dressed and very well spoken. She appears to be approximately 5-feet, 7-inches to 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighs between 150 to 170 pounds.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Davis at 252-533-2899; 252-326-3936 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
