Four of the five people involved in an October 28, 2012, robbery at the West Tenth Street Subway have entered guilty pleas, the fourth one today.

The last suspect, Devonte Blount, is scheduled to appear in court on the day of the anniversary of the robbery, in which employees were made to lie on the floor and were pistol-whipped.

Halifax County Assistant District Attorney Amy Broughton said Hakeem Cotton, decided to take a plea this morning to robbery with a dangerous weapon before jury selection began in his trial. He received 85 months to 114 months in prison.

During the course of this week, Jonathan Kyles, Tasha Caine and Joy Lawrence took pleas to common law robbery in the case. Judgments in their cases are pending truthful testimony in the Blount case.

Evidence in the case shows the two women, Caine and Lawrence, went inside the business around 8:30 p.m. to case it.

When all was clear it is believed that Cotton and Blount went in armed. The employees were ordered to the floor and pistol-whipped as Kyles cleared the cash register and safe, taking just under $1,000 in the heist.

Broughton said she was pleased that the cases of those involved have been resolved. “I look forward to the resolution of the Devonte Blount case.”
