Halifax Academy Vikings have things looking good

The Vikings of Halifax Academy have a long history of championship teams dating back to the 1976 State Championship and then adding two more in 2001 and 2002. The conference championships are too many to count through the 80’s, 90’s and the 2000’s  but recent years have not been kind to the Vikings in the Win column and they are taking the first steps to turning the culture around this year and it started in August.  This year hasn't started like recent years though and a visit to the campus shows something is different;

The weeds growing up the fences surrounding the football field, the dead spots and divots peppering the football field, The paint chipping and falling of the facing school buildings and the mismatched uniforms are gone.

The Players started in August, not only with conditioning but showing up early with weed-eaters and lawnmowers and cleaning up THEIR field.  They started in August getting donations from local businesses, mom, dad, and friends.  They sold dinner tickets and putting on the first ever “Meet the Vikings” night to raise money for the program.  They loaded up their trucks time after time with trash hauling it off.

What does the new home of the Vikings look like you ask?  While words cant truly describe the differences, only that can be done by a visit to the campus, the first thing that will catch your eyes are the new signs, donated by Lynch’s Signs, that point the teams to the  newly renovated home and visitors’ locker rooms.  These locker rooms, made possible by a generous donation from Tommy Wright, are air conditioned with individual player cubicles for equipment.  The new floors are checker boarded with the team colors and the walls freshly painted green and blue.  The outside of the locker room along with the buildings surrounding the field have also been given a fresh coat of paint that brings out the hard work that has been put into the landscaping of the football field and surrounding areas.  It doesn't stop there; when the Vikings take the field they do it with pride with a new set of Under Armour uniforms.

All of the hard work, all of the donations of time and money by the parents, friends, and local businesses are too many to mention and will benefit players for many years to come.
