Deputies G. Page and A. Lewis visited the home of Rueman Mondell Newman while investigating a drug complaint, according to a statement from Captain Scott Hall.
Following the visit, which was based on citizen complaints, they applied for a search warrant. The subsequent search yielded the discovery of more than 60 plants as well as smoking pipes, seeds, scales and rolling papers.
Hall declined to elaborate on what prompted the application for the search warrant after the visit.
Some were planted outside and some on the inside. The plants ranged from 3-feet tall to 6-feet tall. From the appearance of the plants it looked like they were a couple of months old, Hall said.
Newman was charged with manufacture marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance, felony possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Newman posted a $20,000 secured bond and awaits an August 28 court date.
Chief Deputy Wes Tripp commented, “I would like to commend the deputies' efforts in their successful drug investigation.”
