Roanoke Rapids police have issued arrest warrants for a Rocky Mount man allegedly involved in two snatch and dash cigarette thefts in May.

Jason Scott West faces two counts of larceny and two counts of possession of stolen goods for the May 24 crimes at the Interstate BP, which is located near Motel 6 and the New Dixie at Tenth Street and Park Avenue.

A third crime that occurred May 22 remains under investigation.

Additional warrants are on file for his arrest in Zebulon and Tarboro for the same crimes, police said this morning.

On May 24 Sergeant Winnie Bowens responded to call at New Dixie where a man with reddish receding hair entered and asked for two cartons of Newport 100s. The clerk retrieved the cigarettes and when she went to get another item the man requested he grabbed the cartons and left.

The second report was on May 24 at the Interstate BP shortly before 11:30 p.m. when a man matching the description of the New Dixie suspect again asked for two cartons of the same brand, grabbed them and left.

The value of the cigarettes stolen at the Interstate BP and New Dixie is around $182.

The series of cigarette thefts began on May 22 at the Murphy USA store on Premier Boulevard when a young, white woman asked for five cartons of Newport 100s. This occurred shortly after 9:15 p.m.

The clerk asked for ID and after confirming the woman could buy cigarettes grabbed four cartons and placed them on the counter. The woman grabbed the four and got in a red Toyota Corolla that was described by the clerk as a newer model. She got in the passenger seat and the vehicle left.

It is believed the three thefts are possibly related and that the possible motive was resell.

The woman is described as standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall with brown, slightly wavy hair. She was wearing short white shorts and a black tank top.
