A Roanoke Rapids woman who allegedly stole a wallet belonging to a customer at a Weldon store last month called the Weldon Police Department investigator handling the case and allegedly admitted to the crime.

Captain James Avens confirmed Friday night that 58-year-old Rosie Hunter was charged Thursday for misdemeanor larceny.

He declined to elaborate on why she allegedly stole the wallet.

Her picture was caught on surveillance cameras at the Cloverleaf Shell beside the former Interstate Inn.

The victim left after making a purchase but left her wallet on the counter. When she went back to retrieve it, it was gone.

It was later reported the wallet, minus $57 in cash, was found in a drop box at the Roanoke Rapids Post Office.
