RRPD blotter: October 14-20, 2016

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Friday October 14, 2016
At approximately 3:15 a.m., Officer G. Colson responded to a call for assistance about a larceny of a motor vehicle in the county.
Halifax Central advised Colson the vehicle might be traveling Highway 48 toward the city. Colson spotted the truck on Smith Church Road near Jesslyn Drive and attempted to stop it.
The driver refused to stop and ran off the road near Highway 125.
The driver ran from the vehicle and was caught after he was seen running back across Smith Church Road.
Haywood Odell Collins, 37, of Roanoke Rapids, was arrested and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, driving while license revoked, driving left of center, failure to stop for a stop sign and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.
He received a $4,000 bond and December 2 court date.
Lieutenant P. Parks, Sergeant D. Jenkins and officers J. Hardy, S. Blythe and H. Grimes, along with deputies from Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, assisted

At approximately 3 p.m., the Criminal Investigative Division assisted the U.S. Marshal’s Service with locating David Eugene Lassiter, who was wanted from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Marshal’s Service took Lassiter, 31, of Roanoke Rapids into custody in the 500 block of Julian R. Allsbrook without trouble.
Lassiter was charged with being a fugitive from justice and was held without opportunity for bond pending extradition to Virginia.
Lieutenant C.L Vaught and investigators C. Babb, J.K. Davis and G. Williams assisted.

Saturday October 15, 2016
At approximately noon, Officer M. Hunsucker responded to a larceny call at Walmart.
Loss prevention reported Erin Landen Ezzell, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, took items.
Hunsucker arrested and charged Ezzell with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

At approximately 3 p.m. Hunsucker returned to Walmart on another larceny call.
Loss prevention reported Ezzell, Ryan Scott Vick, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, and Brian Thomas Vick, 22, of Gaston, took items.
Hunsucker cited them for larceny and possession of stolen goods. They were released until their December 9 court date.
Officer C. Biggerstaff assisted.

At approximately 4 p.m., Biggerstaff responded to a larceny call at Walmart.
Loss prevention reported Randrika Jacaroll Vaughan, 27, of Roanoke Rapids, took items.
He arrested and charged Vaughan with larceny and possession of stolen goods.
She was received a $1,000 bond and October 28 court date.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. Officer R. Cross responded to a trespasser call at Walmart.
Loss prevention reported Leon Maurice Gray, 40, of Roanoke Rapids, was in the store and asked to not return.
Cross arrested and charged Gray with trespassing and he was also served an outstanding order for arrest for a probation violation.


Monday October 17, 2016
At approximately 1:45 p.m., Master Officer R. Ball arrested Mary Beth Nelson, 23, of Roanoke Rapids on outstanding warrants for possession of stolen goods.
The charges stem from an investigation by Williams on October 6 when the victim reported an iPad was stolen while they were at work.
The Investigation led to warrants on Nelson and Jermaine Deione Hockaday, 31, of Roanoke Rapids.
Hockaday was arrested by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office on October 12 and served the warrants for possession of stolen goods.
Nelson received a $500 bond and November 11 court date.
Sergeant M. Peck assisted.

At approximately 6 p.m. Grimes conducted a traffic stop on Bolling Road for a violation.
Grimes determined Reuben Wendell Edwards, 59, of Roanoke Rapids, was intoxicated.
Edwards was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, fictitious tags, and no insurance. He received a $3,000 bond and a December 2 court date.
Colson assisted.

At approximately 8 p.m., Officer J. Spragins responded to a larceny call at Walmart.
Loss prevention reported Michael Lynn Fleming, 53, of Roanoke Rapids, took items.
Spragins arrested and charged Fleming with larceny and possession of stolen goods.
Peck assisted.

Wednesday October 19, 2016
At approximately 11:30 a.m, Parks arrested Zatez Shermal Perry, 17, of Roanoke Rapids, on outstanding warrants for possession of stolen goods.
The charges stem from an investigation by Williams, on August 8 when the victim reported their vehicle was stolen from their residence in the 500 block of Vance Street.
Jenkins attempted to stop the vehicle on Jackson Street Extension and several people got out and ran away.
The driver continued down a back alley before abandoning the vehicle and running away.
Evidence led Williams to obtain warrants on Perry and three petitions on juveniles ranging in age from 12 to 15.
Perry received a $2,000 bond and November 11 court date.

Thursday October 20, 2016
At approximately 10:30 a.m., several units responded to a call about a vehicle breaking and entering in the 800 block of Roanoke Avenue.
Parks located Terrance Jamaal Robinson, 21, of Roanoke Rapids, who matched the suspect description, in the 800 block of the avenue.
Robinson had outstanding warrants and orders for arrest.
He was taken into custody without trouble.
Robinson was charged on the original call and it was discovered he broke into a vehicle earlier that morning.
Robinson was charged with four counts breaking/entering, two counts breaking/entering of a motor vehicle, two counts attempted breaking/entering, six counts injury to property, conspiracy, larceny after breaking/entering, resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer and served an order for arrest for probation violation.
Robinson received a $37,000 bond and November 16 court date.
The investigation continues into his involvement in other breaking/enterings in the city.
Captain B.L. Martin, Babb and Williams assisted.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., Ball conducted a traffic stop on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway after receiving information the driver had outstanding warrants.
Nathaniel Williams Jr., 44, of Roanoke Rapids, was taken into custody on outstanding warrants for obtaining property by false pretense, failure to work after being paid, assault inflicting serious injury, and communicating threats.
The passenger, Walter Harvey Jr., 56, of Roanoke Rapids, was taken into custody on warrants for larceny, communicating threats and an order for arrest was served.
Williams received a $5,000 bond and November 23 court date while Harvey received a $2,000 bond and November 18 court date.
Parks and Hardy assisted.
