Clemmons, Hearp earn Barton scholarships

Two Roanoke Rapids High School graduates have received scholarships from Barton College in Wilson.

Colton Clemmons
Clemmons is the recipient of a John J. Harper Scholarship.
The renewable scholarship will cover $20,000 of tuition, divided into increments of $5,000 per year for four years.
Clemmons is the son of Geneva Dickens of Gaston and Sam Clemmons of Roanoke Rapids. He will enter Barton College in the fall semester and plans to major in history.
The John J. Harper Scholarship is awarded to entering freshmen who are well prepared to meet the challenges of a liberal arts education.
Criteria for this award includes a minimum 2.5 GPA with a minimum SAT score of 850 or a minimum ACT score of 17, or a minimum 3.25 GPA regardless of SAT or ACT score.
A 2.5 GPA must be maintained to retain the scholarship four years.
In addition to the required renewal GPA, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress, as outlined in the college catalog and be enrolled continuously on a full-time basis.
Sierra N. Hearp
Hearp is the recipient of a Trustee Scholarship.
The renewable scholarship will cover $40,000 of tuition, divided into increments of $10,000 per year for four years.
Hearp is the daughter of Marsha Collier and Michael Hearp, both of Roanoke Rapids. She will enter Barton College in the fall semester.
The Trustee Scholarship is a competitive scholarship for Barton College students who demonstrate outstanding scholarship and leadership during their high school careers.
Students must attend an on-campus scholarship competition in order to be considered for one of these awards.
Eligibility requirements include a minimum GPA of 3.25, and a minimum SAT score of 1100 or an ACT score of 24. A 3.25 GPA must be maintained to retain the scholarship four years.
In addition to the required renewal GPA, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress, as outlined in the college catalog, and be enrolled continuously on a full-time basis.
