RRPD blotter: July 8-10, 2016

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Friday July 8, 2016
At approximately 6 a.m., officers Joey Spragins and Ryan Cross responded to a disturbance call in the 100 block of Prince Street.
The victim reported Lemuel Turnage, 50, of Roanoke Rapids, damaged his vehicle.
Officers located Turnage a few houses down armed with a large knife.
Spragins and Cross talked with Turnage and took him into custody without trouble.
Turnage was charged with injury to property, resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer and communicating threats.
He received a $1,000 bond and July 29 court date.
Saturday July 9, 2016
At approximately 11 a.m., Officer Dustin Newsome served an outstanding warrant for breaking and entering to Joshua Andres Garner in the 1700 block of West Fifth Street.
The charges stem from a matter investigated by Seaboard police Chief Virginia Powell.
Sergeant Mike Moseley and Master Officer Adam Salmon assisted.
At approximately 4 p.m., Officer Alex Green conducted a traffic stop on Vine Street for a violation.
Green spoke with the driver, Josue Velasquez Zaravia, 30, of Roanoke Rapids.
Green determined Zaravia was impaired and did not have a driver’s license. Green charged him with the two violations. The man was released to a responsible person until his August 8 court date.
At approximately 7:45 p.m., Sergeant Daniel Jenkins responded to a larceny call in the 900 block of Madison Street.
The victim reported someone, later identified as Jordan Ferguson, 24, of Roanoke Rapids,took items from their residence.
Jenkins obtained warrants for the arrest of Ferguson, who surrendered shortly after midnight Sunday.
He was arrested and charged with larceny, given a $1,000 bond and August 17 court date.
Officer Greg Colson assisted
At approximately 11:45 p.m., Lieutenant Perry Parks arrested Eric Alex Short, 43, of Roanoke Rapids, in the 1000 block of Vance Street on outstanding warrants.
The charges stem from an assault on June 30, which was investigated by Investigator Chris Babb.
The victims reported they were assaulted in the 1000 block of Vance Street.
Babb learned Short, identified as one of the alleged suspects, went through the victim’s residence and demanded money.
Short was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, common law robbery, breaking and entering and two counts of kidnapping.
He received a $150,000 bond and August 17 court date.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to call Babb at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers 252-583-4444.
Sunday July 10, 2016
At approximately 4:30 a.m., Colson responded to a breaking and entering call in the 900 block of Cedar Street.
The victim reported when they returned home they found two people they recognized as Eric Alex Short Jr., 19, and Tae’Une Demond Johnson, 17, both of Roanoke Rapids, running from the residence.
Officers located both around 6 a.m. and arrested and charged them with breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering. They received $10,000 bonds and August 17 court dates.
Jenkins, Master Officer Roy Ball and Officer Scott Blythe assisted.
At approximately 12:15 p.m.,Newsome arrested Kristina Marie Horton, 30, of Roanoke Rapids, on outstanding warrants for larceny and injury to property, which stem from an investigation by Deputy Jennifer Bradley of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
She received a $1,000 bond and July 27 court date.
Moseley and Salmon assisted.
At approximately 6:30 pm., Parks responded to a larceny call at Walmart.
Loss prevention reported Deavon Era Barrett, 34, of Weldon, took items.
Parks arrested and charged Barrett with larceny and possession of stolen goods.
She received a $500 bond and July 22 court date.
At approximately 10 p.m., Parks conducted a traffic stop on Roanoke Avenue and Eighth Street for a violation.
Parks determined the driver, Ellis Clanton McGee, 56, of Garysburg, was impaired.
Parks arrested and charged McGee, who was released to a responsible party, with driving while impaired, possession of open container, expired registration, and possession of open spirituous liquor.
He has a September 9 court date.
Colson assisted.
At approximately 10 p.m., Ball responded to a disturbance call at Big Al’s Mini Mart at Tenth and Jackson streets.
The clerk reported Matthew Franklin Butts, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, appeared to be intoxicated, refused to leave and claimed to be armed.
Ball located Butts and arrested and charged him with disorderly conduct.
He received a $500 bond and August 12 court date.
Jenkins and Colson assisted.
