City County Drug Task Force Agent C.A. Parker said in a statement Tavarus “Tater” Ivey attempted to flee from officers in the Ransome Circle area of Weldon.

The officers were following up on a drug complaint around 10:30 this morning.

Task force Captain A.M. Harris said agents have been investigating Ivey, 38, of Reese's Store Road, for several months.

Parker seized 38.2 grams of marijuana, currency and a handgun.

Ivey was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and resisting a public officer. He received a $5,000 bond and May 25 court date.

Weldon police Officer Kenneth Melton as well as Chief Mark Macon, Lieutenant Chris Davis and Deputy Chief James Avens assisted.

Parker also cited two women from the Gaston area for possession of one-half ounce or less of marijuana.

Ivey was charged in the March 2009 shooting death of Corey “Biscuit” Graham.

A mistrial, however, was declared after his attorney said nine jurors were not convinced of his guilt and three were.

Graham was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Interstate BP.
