Man faces drug counts after warrant service

A Roanoke Rapids man was arrested Monday night on drug counts after a Halifax County Sheriff's Office deputy noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the Hamilton Street residence.

Agent D.J. Hundley of the City County Drug Task Force said in a statement Sergeant C. Boden went to the residence round 11:30 p.m. to serve an outstanding paper and while speaking to a person at the front door could reportedly smell marijuana wafting from inside.

Boden contacted the task force and Hundley applied for a search warrant.

Cocaine, marijuana and paraphernalia was seized.

Boden arrested and charged Devereaux McHenry Patterson, 34, with resisting a public officer after he reportedly pulled away and did not listen to officer orders, Captain Anzell Harris of the task force said.

Hundley charged him with felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

He received a $2,500 bond and March 23 court date.

Roanoke Rapids Officer Patrick Smith and uniformed sheriff's office deputies assisted.
