RRPD blotter: Bicycle claim and crime entries

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following:

Bicycle claim

According to Deputy Chief Andy Jackson, the police department has in its possession between 40 to 45 bicycles which have either been abandoned or stolen.

Anyone with ownership interest in this property must file a claim within 10 days from the date of this notice or their rights will be forfeited.

There is an assortment of boys and girls bikes in various sizes and adult bikes as well.

Chief Chuck Hasty reported the following:

Monday January 18, 2016

At approximately 3 a.m., Officer Jeffery Mason responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle parked at a gas pump on Presto property.

A truck was parked with the engine running. Mason found the driver, Jackson Keith Cooke, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, asleep inside.

After waking Cooke and talking with him, Mason noticed the man was trying to hide something by dropping it on the floor.

Mason recovered the item and found it to be drug paraphernalia. He also found an open container of alcohol.

Mason cited Cooke, who was released until his February 19 court date, for possession of drug paraphernalia and open container.

Officers Adam Salmon and Alex Green assisted.

At approximately 12:35 p.m., Officer Jonathan Benthall responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported a group described as young men were in the store, took items and then fled on a vehicle. Loss prevention provided the tag number and during investigation Officer Matt Hunsucker went to the address. While speaking with a resident, the driver returned to speak with the officers.

Benthall arrested and charged Jacob Scott Rook, 17, of Roanoke Rapids, with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

He obtained juvenile petitions on a 15-year-old for the same charges as Rook, who received a $1,000 bond and January 29 court date.

Lieutenant Bruce Norton assisted.

At approximately 11:15 p.m., Lieutenant Jeff Baggett conducted a traffic stop for a violation in the 900 block of Cleveland Street.

Baggett spoke with the driver, Gregory Lee Young Jr., 32, of Roanoke Rapids, and saw narcotics inside and later found an open container of alcohol.

Young, who was released until his March 14 court date, was cited for possession of schedule VI and open container

Officer Adam Salmon and Green assisted.

Tuesday January 19, 2016

At approximately 12:44 a.m., Green stopped a vehicle on West Tenth Street near Madison for a violation.

Speaking with the driver, Frannie Louise Norman, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, the officer could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Green later located narcotics inside the vehicle and cited Norman, who was released until her February 19 court date, for possession of schedule VI.

Salmon and Mason assisted.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., officers Ryan Cross and Patrick Smith responded to a domestic in the 1200 block of Georgia Avenue.

They spoke with Jaray Fletcher Douglas Darden, 29, and Sharmaine Latrice Parker, 28, both of Roanoke Rapids.

Investigation determined there was a protection order in place on Parker.

Officers arrested and charged both for violating the order and they were jailed without opportunity for bond pending a February 12 court date.

Wednesday January 20, 2016

At approximately 2:45 p.m., Officer Jason Williams responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Nicol Beaulieu, 35, of Garysburg took items and fled.

Loss prevention pointed out Beaulieu inside another store and Williams charged him with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

He received a $1,000 bond and February 5 court date.

Hunsucker assisted.

Thursday January 21, 2016

At approximately 12:53 p.m., Officer Chris Biggerstaff responded to a larceny call at JustSave.

Staff reported Raymond Curtis Belcher, 47, of Roanoke Rapids, took items and concealed them under his clothing.

Belcher, who received a $500 bond and February 5 court date, was arrested and charged for concealment of goods.

Investigator J.K. Davis and Hunsucker assisted.
