Arrest made in Scotland Neck shooting

A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged in a shooting last week in the Scotland Neck area.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said in a statement released late Wednesday night the January 4 shooting appears to be gang-related and is the most recent crime in a string of violence which has occurred largely in the Scotland Neck area.

Rashawn Ladon Smith of Scotland Neck was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Detective Obert Wiltsie, the gang officer for the sheriff's office, has been working diligently in assisting investigators in the case as well as documenting known gang members for future prosecution, the sheriff said in the statement.
