Wednesday, December 23, 2015

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Master Officer Mark Peck responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Justin Blake Poythress, 30, of Roanoke Rapids, took items without paying. Poythress fled when Peck attempted to stop him, but was taken into custody.

Peck arrested and charged Poythress with larceny, possession of stolen goods and resist/delay/obstruct an officer.

He received a $1,000 bond and January 8 court date.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Officer Patrick Smith conducted a traffic stop for a violation on Hunting Ridge Road and Becker Drive.

Smith learned the driver, Cornelius Orlando Bell, 43, of Roanoke Rapids, had outstanding orders for arrest.

When Smith attempted to get Bell to exit the vehicle, he sped off, struck two parked cars and crashed into a utility pole at East Tenth Street and Becker Drive.

Smith arrested and charged Bell with speeding to elude arrest, hit and run with property damage, injury to property, driving while impaired, open container, fail to wear seat belt, speeding and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.

Bell, who received a $12,000 bond and January 12 court date, was also served three outstanding orders for arrest.

Lieutenant Charles Burnette, Sergeant Richie White, Master Officer Gerald Morris and officers Ryan Cross, Joey Spragins and Ariel Burgess assisted.

At approximately 6 p.m., Peck responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Michael Wayne Finch, 27, of Roanoke Rapids, took items without paying.

Peck arrested and charged Finch with larceny, possession of stolen goods and trespassing.

During processing Peck discovered Finch was wanted by the state of Virginia on fraud charges. He received an $80,000 bond and January 8 court date.

Officers Chris Biggerstaff and Jonathan Benthall assisted.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., Officer Joey Spragins conducted a traffic stop for a violation on Julian R Allsbrook Highway.

Spragins learned the driver, Broderick Jamaal Martin, 23, of Roanoke Rapids, was impaired.

During the interaction Spragins found two concealed handguns in the vehicle.

Spragins arrested and charged Martin with driving while impaired and carrying a concealed handgun. Martin was released to a responsible person until his January 15 court date.

White and Officer Ryan Cross assisted.

At approximately 11:50 p.m., Morris responded to a call about a motor vehicle collision at Bobby’s Supermarket

During the investigation the driver, Noe Ventura Rivera, 30, of Rocky Mount, was arrested for driving while impaired, driving while license revoked and careless/reckless driving.

Rivera received a $500 bond and a January 11 court date.

Burgess and Cross assisted.

Saturday December 26, 2015

At approximately 12:21 p.m, Officer Dale Strickland responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Ernest Lamont Barber, 38, of Garysburg, took items without paying.

Strickland cited Barber with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

He was released until his February 8 court date.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., Sergeant Daniel Jenkins responded to a possible robbery call on Highway 48.

Jenkins located a vehicle matching the description given and attempted to conduct a traffic stop at I-95 and Highway 158.

The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and continued northbound.

The vehicle was stopped in Greensville County.

The driver jumped out and attempted to run away but was caught a short distance away.

William Michael Scott, 22, of Emporia, was turned over to the Greensville County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police to be held for extradition back to Halifax County to face charges of fleeing to elude arrest, driving while license revoked and failing to heed to lights and sirens.

Sunday December 27, 2015

At approximately 12:30 a.m., Master Officer Gorton Williams and Officer Jeffrey Mason were working an off-duty assignment at Applebee’s when two groups of people began to argue inside the business. Officers asked one of the parties to leave the building to get the crowd to disperse.

The person was trying to leaving when another crowd started towards him leaving the lot.

Officers attempted to move the crowd back and disperse but they would not until extra officers arrived.

Mason obtained warrants on Antroney Maurice Mallory, 36, of Charlotte, and Joe Oetrone Mallory, 30, of Roanoke Rapids, for disorderly conduct and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer after they were identified.

Both men are asked to turn themselves in to face charges in this matter.

The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges may be obtained.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Master Officer Roy Ball responded to a larceny call at Presto.

Store staff reported Jarmise Kyshey Rook, 29, of Halifax, took items without paying.

Ball arrested and charged Rook with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Rook received a $1,000 bond and January 29 court date.

Lieutenant Perry Parks assisted.

At approximately 4 a.m., Officer Jamie Hardy attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation.

When the driver refused to stop, the he pulled into a driveway, got out and ran away.

Hardy obtained warrants on Jimmie Eugene Edwards Jr., 27, of Roanoke Rapids, for flee/elude, reckless driving, fail to stop for stop sign, unsealed liquor in passenger area, carry a concealed weapon and resist/delay/obstruct an officer.

At approximately 7 p.m., Edwards surrendered at the police department where he was served warrants and received a $3,000 bond and January 29 court date.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., Officer Scott Blythe responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention reported Jonathan Lynn Johnston, 22, of Roanoke Rapids, took items from the store without paying.

Blythe arrested and charged Johnston with larceny, possession of stolen goods and possession of drug paraphernalia when paraphernalia was discovered during processing.

During this investigation Ball arrested and charged Robert Gerald Bell, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, for possession of schedule I, possession of drug paraphernalia and trespassing.

Johnston received a $500 bond and Bell a $3,000 bond. They both have January 29 court dates.
