The matter, which ended peacefully around 12:15 p.m., began when police received information on the location of West around 10:15 this morning.
When officers arrived they received information West was inside and possibly armed, although a weapon was not found following a search afterward, Hasty said.
Officers set up a perimeter around the house and started to get nearby residents to a safe location. Several law enforcement agencies responded to assist with getting West out of the house.
The Halifax County Sheriff's Office Hazardous Entry and Arrest Team and the Roanoke Rapids Police Department’s Armored Rescue Vehicle were deployed along with negotiators from the sheriff’s office and Murfreesboro Police Department.
West's mother encouraged her son to “please just come out” and got him to surrender peacefully.
West was charged with attempted breaking and entering, injury to property, trespassing, assault inflicting serious bodily injury and served the order for arrest.
He received a $16,000 secured bond and January 5 court date.
Lieutenant Perry Parks, Sergeant Daniel Jenkins and officers Scott Blythe and Greg Colson, along with the criminal investigative division of the police department also responded.
“We were able to bring a successful resolution to this incident by the coordination of all the law enforcement agencies involved and with the help of the family nobody was injured during this incident,” Hasty said in the statement. “I am thankful for the great working relationship we have with the other agencies that we can just make a call and valuable resources are on the way and also with the community helping us make contact with the family member to help this incident have a great outcome.”
West pled guilty last year in a 2013 shooting and was also arrested following a fight at Applebee's earlier this year.
