A juvenile was arrested today and an 18-year-old who is considered to be armed and dangerous is still sought in a Friday night shooting in the 100 block of Madison Street.

Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty said the 15-year-old juvenile will be petitioned to court on charges of attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy as will 18-year-old Jimmy Isaiah Williams Jr. of Gaston.

Williams has not been caught and frequents the downtown areas of Roanoke Rapids and Gaston, Hasty said.

The juvenile was taken into custody around 12:30 this afternoon in Gaston with assistance from the Northampton County Sheriff's Office.

Around 8:15 p.m. Friday, police received a call a person was shot at East Fourth near Hamilton streets.

Sergeant Richie White and Officer Ryan Cross responded to investigate. The victim told officers he was shot in the 100 block of Madison Street.

Further examination by Investigator B.L. Martin determined the victim was shot and robbed. Hasty declined to comment on whether the juvenile and Williams both fired weapons.

Martin said Williams is considered armed and dangerous and with the charges lodged against him in the shooting has between 18 to 20 other outstanding warrants against him, many of them related to car break-ins.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Williams is encouraged to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
