RRPD blotter: September 4-8

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

September 4, 2015

At approximately midnight, Master Officer Gerald Morris responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention told Morris Sharahn Chantee-Clara Farrow, 30, of Roanoke Rapids, took items from the store without paying.

Morris arrested and charged Farrow with larceny, possession of stolen goods and possession of marijuana after he found a small amount of marijuana in Farrow’s possession.

Farrow received a $1,000 bond and a September 22 court date.

At approximately 1 p.m., Officer Dale Strickland responded to a call about an intoxicated person refusing to leave Taco Bell.

Strickland got another call about the person at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Strickland located Herman Blount Jr., 53, of Roanoke Rapids, in the parking lot.

Strickland arrested and charged Blount with being drunk and disruptive, possession of an open container on public vehicle area and served him with an outstanding criminal summons for possession of open container.

Blount received a $500 bond and October 2 court date.

Officer Adam Salmon assisted.

September 5, 2015

At approximately 7:30 p.m., Officer Greg Colson responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention told Colson William Tecsumpsah Hamlin, 67, of Roanoke Rapids, took items from the store without paying.

Colson arrested and charged Hamlin with larceny, possession of stolen goods and trespassing.

Hamlin received a $4,000 bond and October 9 court date.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., Officer Scott Blythe received information a person with outstanding warrants was walking on Becker Drive.

Blythe located two people in the area.

During the interaction, Blythe saw Prentis Anderson Jr., 18, of Weldon, drop something on the ground, which turned out to be a small bag of marijuana.

Blythe cited Anderson for possession of marijuana and he was released until his October 12 court date.

Weldon Police Department Sergeant Lee Mason assisted.

September 6, 2015

At approximately midnight, Officer Ariel Burgess responded to a fight call at JC Mart on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

During the investigation, Burgess interacted with Allen Blake Price Jr., 30, of Rich Square, who was reportedly causing a disturbance and drinking in public.

Price was arrested and charged with consuming on public street, possession of schedule II, possession of schedule IV, possession of schedule VI and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Price received an $8,000 bond and October 30 court date.

Master Officer Roy Ball, Blythe and Colson assisted.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Salmon responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention told Salmon George Earl Vanalen Jr., 40, and Heather Elizabeth Bass, 32, of Rocky Mount, took items from the store without paying, changed the price codes on some items and paid a smaller amount for the product.

Salmon arrested and charged Vanalen and Bass with larceny, possession of stolen goods and larceny from merchant by affix product code.

Vanvelan and Bass received $1,500 bonds and December 9 court dates.

Sergeant Mike Moseley and Strickland assisted.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. several officers responded to a call of shots fired on Oakridge Drive and Wilkins Street.

Investigator Frankie Griffin learned the two matters were possibility related.

Griffin arrested and charged Jeremy Allen East, 27, of Roanoke Rapids, for shooting into occupied property, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and going armed to the terror of the people.

East received a $10,000 bond and October 21 court date.

Lieutenant Jeff Baggett, Moseley, Master Officer Gorton Williams, and officers Salmon, Strickland, Jeffrey Mason and Investigator Bobby Martin assisted.

The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges may be brought.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., Officer Jamie Hardy responded to a breaking and entering call in the 300 block of Washington Street.

The victim told Hardy that while asleep, someone kicked in the front door. The victim ran into the kitchen and called 911.

Martin was called in to help process the scene and continue the investigation.

There was no description available of the suspect or suspects at this time.

September 8, 2015

At approximately midnight, Colson responded to a larceny call at New Dixie Mart on Highway 125.

Staff told Colson Phillip Kiah II, 23, of Roanoke Rapids, took items from the store without paying. Colson arrested and charged Kiah with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Kiah was also served with a probation violation order.

Kiah received a $3,000 bond and October 12 court date.

Moseley and Blythe assisted.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., Blythe responded to a report of someone pointing a gun.

The victim told Blythe while driving, a person in a gold-colored car was tailgating them and then pulled up beside them and pointed a gun.

The victim identified Paul Thomas Strickland Jr., 23, of Roanoke Rapids.

Blythe arrested and charged Strickland with assault by pointing a gun.

Strickland received a $1,000 bond and October 9 court date.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Hardy responded to an assault call on Highway 125.

Hardy could hear the arguing inside the residence and was waiting for a backup officer when the victim came to the door.

DaQuinn Fernando Blount, 20, of Roanoke Rapids, jumped off the balcony and ran away from the area. Hardy left the residence, but stayed close to the area.

Blount returned, but ran away from Hardy into the woods.

Blount returned for a third time and went inside the residence and would not let the victim out of the residence.

Griffin and Lieutenant Andy Bryant were called to assist with talking Blount out of the residence. The victim got out of the residence by means of the balcony with the assistance of the police officers. Bryant talked Blount out of the residence and he was arrested and charged with kidnapping and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.

Blount was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has a September 11 court date.

Moseley, Ball, Colson, and Burgess assisted.
