Eric Lee Whitaker, 47, of Roanoke Rapids, was arrested and charged with violating a domestic violence protective order.
At approximately 3 a.m., Master Officer Gorton Williams responded to a call he broke a window at a former acquaintance's residence.
Williams and Sergeant Mike Moseley located Whitaker near Third and Madison streets.
Whitaker was denied bond due to the domestic nature of the case and given a September 4 court date.
August 15
At approximately 4:30 p.m., Officer Jamie Hardy responded to a complaint two people took items from Food Lion on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.
Hardy located Alfred Short, 36, of Roanoke Rapids, and Derek Davon Roberts, 26, of Gaston, and got out to speak with them.
Hardy found Short in possession of steaks taken from Food Lion.
While Hardy took Short into custody, Roberts ran away.
Master Officer Roy Ball located Roberts a short distance away with steaks and crack cocaine in his possession.
Hardy arrested and charged Short with larceny, possession of stolen goods and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.
Roberts was charged with larceny, possession of stolen goods, resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer, possession of schedule II and disorderly conduct.
Short received an $8,000 bond and October 9 court date.
Roberts received a $2,000 bond and the same court date as Short.
Lieutenant Perry Parks also assisted.
At approximately 9:45 p.m., Officer Jonathan Benthall responded to an assault call at 500 Becker Drive.
Benthall spoke with the victim who told him Timothy Lynn Atkins, 46, of Roanoke Rapids, assaulted her.
Benthall noticed bruising on the victim’s neck and arrested and charged Atkins with assault on a female.
Atkins was denied bond due to the domestic nature of the case and has an August 21 court date.
Sergeant Terrence Tyler and Officer Jason Williams assisted.
