With help from eyes in the sky, the City County Drug Task Force and Halifax County Sheriff's Office seized 33 marijuana plants today.

The plants were seized from two plots of land in the Buttercup Lane area of Roanoke Rapids, according to a statement by Sheriff Wes Tripp.

The investigation was part of Operation Bladerunner, which incorporates aircraft from the state Highway Patrol and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. “Operation Bladerunner is conducted several times throughout the year to eradicate growing marijuana from areas in our communities,” Tripp said.

Task force Agent D.R. Radford organized the 2015 Operation Bladerunner and will be doing followup investigation to determine ownership of the plants. “The investigation is ongoing at this time. Agents from the City County Drug Task Force would like to thank all law enforcement officers that submitted an intelligence report of suspected marijuana growers,” Tripp said. “Agents will continue to follow up on those reports submitted and will continue to do spot checks.”

Citizens are encouraged to call Halifax County Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444 if they suspect anyone growing marijuana or have any other drug complaint.
