Distinguished Young Women program set tonight

The 2016 Distinguished Young Women of Roanoke Valley will be held tonight at 7 at The Centre at Halifax Community College.

"Our nine contestants have worked for almost a year to compete for scholarships and the honor of representing the community as the Distinguished Young Woman of 2016,” said program Chair Casey Harris. “They have most importantly gained experiences in interview, public speaking, and our Be Your Best Self program.”

The winner at the local level will go on to represent the Roanoke Valley at the state program in Greensboro, then possibly on to Mobile, Alabama, to compete nationally.

The contestants are:

Kameron Chase Lasky

Roanoke Rapids High School

Her career goal is pediatric dentistry with her college choice being East Carolina University.

Her talent is acro-jazz dance and her selection is A Little Party Never Killed Nobody by Fergie with arrangement by Erika Love and Casey Harris.

Kirklyn Brie Parks

Roanoke Rapids High School

Her career goal is pharmacy or physical therapy with her college choices being UNC-Chapel Hill or UNC-Wilmington.

Her talent is tap dance and her selection is We Go Together, a Grease medley choreographed by Heather Merritt.

Madison Crawley

Halifax Academy

Her career goal is nursing or dentistry with her college choice being UNC-Wilmington.

Her talent is vocal presentation and her selection is Something in the Water by Carrie Underwood.

Rachel Louise Rightmyer

Halifax Academy

Her career goal is elementary education with her college choices being East Carolina University or Meredith College.

Her talent is clogging and her selection is Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley.

Catherine Leigh Acree

Roanoke Rapids High School

Her career goal is education with her college choices being North Carolina State University or UNC-Wilmington.

Her talent is piano and her selection is My Little Girl by Tim McGraw.

Makayla Renee Jean

Roanoke Rapids High School

Her career goal is pediatric dentistry with her college choice being East Carolina University.

Her talent is acrobatics and her selection is Ease on Down the Road by Michael Jackson with choreography by Heather Merritt.

Savanah Brooke Robertson

Halifax Academy

Her career goal is occupational therapy with her college choice being Campbell University.

Her talent is vocal performance and her selection is Fight Song by Rachel Platten.

Vivian Man

Roanoke Rapids High School

Her career goal is dentistry with her college choice being East Carolina University.

Her talent is cheer and tumbling and her selection is a techno cheer mix with choreography by Casey Harris.

Delaney Ray Clark

Roanoke Rapids High School

Her career goal is pharmacy with her college choice being UNC-Chapel Hill.

Her talent is lyrical dance performance and her selection is Try by Colbie Caillat with choreography by Clark and Janelle Given.
