Arrests in the June 22 murder of Jarshamel Cambridge continued with the service of a warrant Thursday to Taphil Jerome Yancey.

Yancey, 22, of Enfield, becomes the fifth person charged in the gang-related murder and was served the warrant in the Nash County Jail where he is being held on unrelated counts.

The murder charge against him keeps him in jail without the opportunity for bond, Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said in a statement. He awaits a July 22 court date.

The sheriff's office continues to look for Dexter Taylor. It is possible he has fled Halifax County, Tripp said. “We're getting all kinds of information on his whereabouts and following every lead.”

The sheriff stressed in his statement those withholding information could face charges in the case. “During the course of this investigation, if it can be proven that individuals are withholding information concerning the arrests of individuals responsible, those people could be arrested for accessory after the fact of murder.”

More arrests are anticipated in the case, he said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
