This week is a very special week in Roanoke Rapids Graded School District as we celebrate all of our staff for Staff Appreciation Week.

Every single one of our staff plays an important role in ensuring a great education for each of our students.

Regardless of their job title, if you see a staff member from RRGSD this week, please tell them “thank you” for a job well done! I am so proud of all of our staff!

Various students were honored this week in special ways.

Amanda Daniel, a senior at Roanoke Rapids High School, is the recipient of this year’s Ethel Crawley Scholarship, which will give her a free undergraduate education at the college or university of her choice.

The Crawley Scholarship covers tuition, room, board, school fees, books, and other supplies. Amanda plans to pursue a career as a physical therapist, and she will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall.

RRHS Senior Softball Pitcher Kalissa Williams officially signed to continue her academic and softball career at Guilford College.

High school students Lydia Carroll, Kameron Jensen, Courtney King, Jackson Hasty, Ariana Robinson and Patrick Sullivan were chosen to participate in the 2024 North Carolina Eastern District Choral Festival.

They performed with other top singers from high schools in eastern North Carolina on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Our seniors at Roanoke Rapids High School and Roanoke Rapids Early College celebrated their next steps.

On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, RRHS hosted the 2024 College and Career Decision Day, and RREC hosted Senior Decision Day 2024.

We are so proud of all of our seniors! On Thursday, May 2, 2024, RREC also hosted the Beta Club End of the Year Banquet.

We are thankful to the Center for Energy Education and Roanoke Rapids Rotary Club for their donations to our Solar Superstars KidWind team to support their journey to the KidWind Worlds Competition in Minneapolis!

Together, we're lighting up the future of renewable energy and inspiring the next generation of innovators! Last week, our Solar Superstars presented about their journey to the Roanoke Rapids Rotary Club held at The Mill Coffee & Eatery.

Chaloner Middle School hosted its Night of the Arts on Thursday, May 2, 2024. The chorus, guitar class, and band performed beautifully; the visual arts on display showcased our students’ talents; and everyone enjoyed the Book Fair.

On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, Chaloner students went to the Math Champions competition at East Carolina University.

In the Math Competition, Grade 8 students placed third in the Breakout Room and second in Math Bowl.

Grade 7 students placed second in the Breakout Room and first in the Math Bowl.

Students constructed a tank, monitored water quality and raised and released tiny fry (juvenile fish) in partnership with real fisheries biologists from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Students learned about the significant role in the survival of the indigenous people and the first settlers to the New World of American Shad, who are a very important part of the food web in North Carolina.

Our students at Belmont Elementary School and Manning Elementary School also performed well at the Math Champions at East Carolina University.

Grade 3 placed third in the Breakout Room and second in the Math Bowl. Grade 4 placed first in the Breakout Room. Grade 5 placed first in the Breakout Room and third in the Math Bowl.
