Jane Spivey Lassiter Respess

Jane Spivey Lassiter Respess was born and raised in Weldon, NC.  She graduated from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 1951 with a degree in Mathematics.  After college she spent many years in Baltimore and Richmond before becoming a homemaker and caring for her beloved children.  As her children grew she also became a Math teacher in local schools.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and a starving dog originally named Coco scored a victory in Northampton County court last week when the dog’s owner, Sharicka Smith, pleaded guilty.

Marshals laud Roanoke Rapids police

Support in a high-risk arrest last month on Monroe Street has earned the Roanoke Rapids Police Department a citation from the U.S. Marshals Service.

A 2-year-old child drowned this weekend in a pool off Big John’s Store Road in Northampton County.
