Fingerprint evidence collected during an October vehicle breaking and entering led to another person being charged in the crime, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

The recovery of a lost wallet this morning ended with cocaine charges for its owner after the drug was found in a folded dollar bill.

The city’s planning board this evening threw its support behind a grant application that could help bring improvements to Chaloner Recreation Center.

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

The opening of the green space at 1026 Roanoke Avenue will coincide with the Halifax County Arts Council’s Arts on the Avenue annual event in May.

A familiar face has been tapped to lead the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District’s early college program.  

Roanoke Rapids police officers have been honored not only in-house but by the State Bureau of Investigation for the part they played in arresting one of the suspects in the murder of Dr. Nancy Alford at her home at Lake Gaston last month.

Strong winds early this morning may have contributed to a fire in the 100 block of Monroe Street, according to the Roanoke Rapids Fire Department.

Incumbent Halifax County Commissioner Patrick Qualls is running to retain his seat on the board.
