The National Weather Service is predicting heat index values to approach or exceed 100 degrees beginning Saturday and extending through Monday.

A Littleton man came forward today and has been charged in a fatal hit and run collision which occurred Saturday morning.

The planning board this evening passed to city council a recommendation for approval of two proposals — one a rezoning which could lead to a retail development and the other a conditional use permit for a U.S. Cellular tower.

Roanoke Rapids City Council this evening made several special recognitions during its meeting.

The Chaloner Recreation Center pool will remained closed throughout the summer as the parks and recreation department prepares a plan for what maintenance and repairs will be needed to have the facility ready for next year.
