Roanoke Rapids police are investigating the second armed robbery of the week.

Whether it is connected to one where a clerk was shot Wednesday is still being explored, Chief Chuck Hasty said.

The latest robbery occurred Thursday night around 11 at New Dixie Mart in the 1100 block of East Tenth Street, Hasty said in a statement.

When officers arrived employees told them a person entered the store armed with a handgun and demanded money as well as the purse of a customer who was in the business.

Both the clerk and customer complied with demands of the suspect, Hasty said.

The person fled on foot running towards the back of the store.

The suspect is described as standing about 4-feet, 6-inches and was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and had something black covering the face.

This suspect is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. If seen contact law enforcement to let them know the location.

Meanwhile Hasty said a store clerk who was shot during an armed robbery Wednesday at New Dixie on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway remains hospitalized and is fair condition.

Hasty said detectives can't make connections on Thursday's robbery being related to the one Wednesday because it is too early in the investigation.

He said investigators continue to examine whether the Wednesday robbery is related to one in Weldon last week.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Captain Bobby Martin at 252-533-2820 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
