RRPD roundup: Labor Day weekend through Wednesday reports

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

On Tuesday at approximately 9:30 p.m., Officer H. Marshall was investigating a motor vehicle collision on the parking lot of Plaza Shopping Center.  

Marshall found Nyati Garner, 20, of Roanoke Rapids, in possession of narcotics.

Garner was cited for possession of marijuana and released until his September 14 court date.

Officer M. Hunsucker assisted.

 

On Tuesday at approximately 10 p.m., Officer J. DeSare was on a random patrol in the area of Emry Park when he noticed people sitting on a picnic table.  

DeSare spoke with Fonda N. Butler, 40, and David L. Berwick, 38, both of Roanoke Rapids, and found them in possession of drug paraphernalia.  

They were cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and released until their October 8 court date.

 

On Wednesday at approximately 12:36 a.m., DeSare was on a random patrol in the area of Cedarwood Cemetery when he noticed a vehicle.  

During interaction with the occupants narcotics, paraphernalia and a person with an outstanding order for arrest were located.  

DeSare cited Curtis Bryant Richardson, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, for possession of marijuana and released him until his October 8 court date.

Jessyka Lacy Dickens, 29, was arrested on an outstanding order and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer. She received a $4,000 bond and September 7 court date.

Officer J. Shelburne assisted.

 

On August 31 at approximately 10:30 a.m.,Lieutenant J. Baggett and Shelburne responded to a disturbance call at Sheetz.

Staff told Baggett Herman Blount, 56, of Gaston, was being loud and assaulted one of the employees.  

Shelburne located Blount across the street in a parking lot and arrested him for assault on a female and possession of open malt beverage in public place.

He received a $500 bond and September 28 court date.

On August 31 at approximately 9:30 p.m.,officers responded to the 1400 block of Williams Street about a report of someone being shot.  

When officers arrived they found nobody had been shot but they did locate Jerry Wayne Vowell, 17, of Roanoke Rapids, inside the residence impaired and in possession of narcotics.  

Vowell was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana by Officer J. Spragins.

He received a $500 bond and September 24 court date.

Lieutenant P. Parks, Sergeant T. Tyler and Officer M. Worrell assisted.

 

On Sunday at approximately 10 a.m., DeSare responded to Family Dollar on Highway 158 about a juvenile being solicited by an employee.  

The juvenile’s guardian told Officer DeSare the child went to the store and purchased items. When the child left a note was discovered in the bag asking if the child wanted a sex act performed on them.

DeSare arrested and charged Tyrone Donnell Simmons with indecent liberties with a minor.

He received a $10,000 bond and September 19 court date.

Baggett, Hunsucker and Marshall assisted.

 

On Monday at approximately 2 a.m., Parks conducted a traffic stop for a violation on Gordon Drive and Oak Street.  

During the stop a passenger fled from the vehicle.  

Parks spoke with the driver, Jermaine Samuel Bowser, 40, of Roanoke Rapids.

Parks determined Bowser’s license was revoked and he was in possession of narcotics.

Bowser was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, driving while license revoked, possession of open container, fictitious registration, no insurance, fail to register a motor vehicle and expired registration.

He received a $5,000 bond and November 7 court date.
