RRPD roundup: Child assault; blotter entries

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to the Chief Chuck Hasty:

On Thursday at approximately 11:30 a.m., Officer C. Fortier responded to a report of illegal activity at a business on Sheraton Drive.

Rolica Ervin, 37, of Washington, D.C., was found in possession of narcotics.  

Fortier cited Ervin for possession of marijuana and she was released until her May 21 court date.

 

On Thursday at approximately at 4:15 p.m., Master Officer J. Hardy conducted a traffic stop for a violation on Highway 158 near Highway 48.  

Dillon Wayne Lee Brigman, 25, was found in possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was cited and released until his June 11 court date.

 

On Friday around noon, officers J. DeSare and E. Ellington responded to a call about people inside an unoccupied residence in the 900 block of Henry Street.  

They found Andera Jada Mills, 16, inside the residence.  

DeSare arrested and charged Mills with breaking/entering.

She was released to a responsible person and has a September 11 court date.

DeSare obtained warrants on Kevin Darnell Sturgis, 34, of Roanoke Rapids, for breaking/entering.

Sturgis has not been arrested at this time and is encouraged to come to the police department to take care of this matter.

On Saturday at approximately 9:45 a.m., Officer H. Grimes responded to a call about an assault on a child in the 100 block of Duke Street.  

Grimes spoke to the victim and the victim’s mother. They told Grimes Rakeon Lamonta Silver, 21, of Roanoke Rapids, allegedly assaulted the child by twisting their arm and throwing them across the room.   

The child was transported by EMS to the hospital for treatment of the injuries.

Grimes charged Silver with assault on a child.

He received a $2,000 bond and June 11 court date.

Sergeant D. Jenkins and Officer M. Hunsucker assisted.

 

On Saturday at approximately 2:15 p.m., Grimes responded to a larceny at Walmart.

Loss prevention told Grimes a person took Xbox and PlayStation games from the store.  

Investigation determined the games were taken to another business and sold for cash.

Around 5:15 p.m., Grimes located Ronnell Ray Murrell, 23, of Conway, and arrested and charged him with two counts each of  larceny, possession of stolen goods and obtaining property by false pretense.

He received a $7,500 bond and June 6 court date.

During the investigation Grimes obtained warrants on Jamal Raquan Boone, 18, of Woodland, for obtaining property by false pretense and receiving stolen goods.

Boone has not been arrested and is encouraged to take care of these matters.

On Sunday at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Shelburne spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Old Farm Road near Fourth Avenue.

During the stop items taken were located inside the vehicle and it was discovered the alleged suspects attempted to return the stolen items for cash at customer service.

Shelburne charged the following:

Emily Shearin, 18, of Roanoke Rapids —  trespassing and no operator’s license. She received a $1,000 bond and June 1 court date.

David Wayne Edwards Jr., 20, of Roanoke Rapids — attempting to obtain property by false pretense. He received a $1,000 bond and June 6 court date.

Charles Richard Edwards, 39, of Roanoke Rapids — larceny and attempting to obtain property by false pretense. He received a $1,500 bond and June 6 court date.

Lieutenant P. Parks and Master Officer A. Salmon assisted.
