RRPD roundup: Two sought in separate assault cases

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Captain Bobby Martin:

On Saturday at approximately 3:43 p.m., Officer Jamie Hardy encountered a person who called for assistance after their cell phone was taken from them.

Hardy learned the person was the victim of an assault.

Through further investigation Hardy obtained warrants on Dameyl Sledge, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, for assault by strangulation and interfere with emergency communications.

Sledge has not been arrested and no mugshots or physical description were immediately available.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is encouraged to call local law enforcement or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.

 

On Sunday at approximately 8 p.m., Master Officer Gerald Morris encountered a victim of an assault at Halifax Regional.

Morris learned the victim was assaulted and had injuries about her face.

Officer C. Batchelor through further investigation charged Alvin Norwood Jr., 26, of Roanoke Rapids, with assault inflicting serious injury and assault on a female.

Norwood has not been arrested and there was no mugshot available.

He is a black male described as standing 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 165 pounds.

He frequents the Old Farm Road area of Roanoke Rapids.

On Sunday at approximately 11:55 p.m., Batchelor was on patrol in the area of Old Farm Road when he noticed a vehicle approaching him with a motor vehicle violation.

Batchelor got the vehicle stopped and upon further investigation discovered the driver was in possession of marijuana.

The driver, Devon Fleming, was cited with possession of marijuana and the motor vehicle violation as well.

 

On Friday at approximately 10:30 a.m., Travathan Wyche, 28, of Roanoke Rapids, was located and arrested by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office and turned over to Chief Chuck Hasty on outstanding warrants obtained by Investigator G. Williams.

The charges stem from an investigation initiated on March 4 after a local business reported money stolen.

On March 5, Williams obtained warrants on Wyche, who was carried before a magistrate and given a $25,500 bond with a court date of May 2.
