A Henrico Republican will challenge the winner of the state House District 27 May 8 primary and a Roanoke Rapids GOP member will seek to take a seat away from one of the three winners of the Halifax County Board of Commissioners race.

Raymond Orville Dyer filed to run for the House 27 district seat occupied by Michael Wray.

Franklin Williams is challenging Wray in the May 8 primary.

Meanwhile today, Roanoke Rapids Republican John Randolph Whichard filed to run for county commissioner.

The Democratic primary race for commissioner features incumbents Vernon Bryant, Rives Manning and Patrick Qualls running against challengers James Mills and O.D. Sykes.

Today also saw incumbent Halifax County Board of Education member Joyce Lashley file as well as challenger Nicole Mills. Incumbents Claude Cooper and Susie Lynch Evans filed previously.

In the November Weldon City Schools Board of Education race, incumbent Tiffany Hale filed today, joining fellow board members Tanya Byrd-Robinson and James Williams along with challenger Edith Jenkins.

Incumbent Chester Alston has yet to file.

The filing period ends Wednesday at noon.
