James William Leake, Jr., (aka Junebug), 91, of Roanoke Rapids passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024 in his home.  

Mr. Leake was born on March 14, 1933, in Roanoke Rapids, the son of the late Mollie Cobb and James William Leake, Sr.  

He was also preceded in death by his wife Doris Fulghum Leake and his siblings, Claude Leake, Clifton Leake, and Marion White.

He was an avid golfer but enjoyed many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, gardening, boating, and watching Duke basketball.  

He began working at the Halifax Paper Company in 1952 and retired as Pulp Mill Manager after 40 years of service.

Mr. Leake served our country as a Sergeant in the United States Army.  He was also a faithful member of Smith Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Leake Young (Michael) of Knightdale, NC; his grandson, James Bryan Young (Miranda) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Smith Methodist Church's Men's Club.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM in Smith Methodist Church on Thursday, March 21, 2024 with Revs. Stan Lewis and Tom Schwartz officiating.   

Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.  

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.
