The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Shane Guyant:

On Friday Master Officer D. Norfleet pulled a vehicle on Roanoke Avenue for several motor vehicle violations and identified 29-year-old  Ramonde Parker of Roanoke Rapids as the driver.

Norfleet learned Parker was wanted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for an extraditable warrant related to possessing a firearm by a convicted felon. Parker was taken into custody and placed in the Halifax County Detention Center without the opportunity for bond pending extradition by ATF agents.

Federal court records show that Parker appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Kimberly A. Swank on Monday. He was remanded into temporary custody pending his detention hearing Friday in Greenville.

Parker was federally indicted on November 14. The grand jury charged that knowing he had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, Parker knowingly possessed a firearm.

Parker’s arraignment is scheduled for February 13 before Magistrate Judge Robert B. Jones Jr.

Stolen vehicle leads to fugitive charge

This morning around 6 Lieutenant M. Hunsucker was notified of a stolen vehicle possibly entering the city limits from the Flock system.

Hunsucker observed a silver Hyundai at Highway 48 and Oak Street and confirmed that it was stolen from Prince George County, Virginia.

The driver was identified as Dynicea Mischele Whitaker, 34, of Roanoke Rapids.

Whitaker was wanted for the theft of the vehicle and was arrested and charged as a fugitive from the Commonwealth of Virginia and felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Whitaker received a $5,000 bond for the North Carolina charge and was jailed without the opportunity for bond for the fugitive warrant pending extradition to Virginia.
