A lighting project at the Sarah Keys Evans Plaza at Martin Luther King Jr. Park has been completed, according to Roanoke Rapids Parks and Recreation Director John Simeon.
Simeon said lighting was part of the discussions the city had with the plaza committee after the project was completed.
The parks department installed the lighting, for which planning had been in the works for several months. The lighting was completed this past week.

“I think that it is an excellent project that highlights two very historical moments and really brings the park together,” Simeon said. “It’s a completed project that the community should be very proud of.”
The plaza honoring Keys was unveiled in August of 2020.
The plaza and park are located at the intersection of Wyche Street and Virginia Avenue.
