Pumpkin Creativity Flourishes at Manning Elementary
Fourth graders at Manning Elementary School showcased their creativity with a pumpkin decorating contest that brought both smiles and amazement.
Students worked diligently to transform their pumpkins into incredible designs, from spooky scenes to characters and colorful masterpieces.

Clara Hearne Pre-Kindergarten Center Parent Night

Roanoke Rapids Early College: A Week of Inspiration and Opportunity
Our Roanoke Rapids Early College students have had a week filled with learning experiences that will shape their futures.
Dr. Alice Cheng, Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and adjunct professor at NC State University’s Poole College of Management, spoke with our ninth graders via Zoom.
Dr. Cheng shared her expertise on communication and artificial intelligence (AI), providing insights on AI’s impact on the digital world. We’re grateful for her time and dedication in helping our students understand this ever-evolving field.
Sheba Lowe Brown, President of APlus Test Prep, visited and energized our juniors with top-notch ACT strategies.
Her guidance is already making a difference as our students prepare for college admissions testing.
The second half of our scholars officially kicked off their first college course, ACA-122: College Transfer Success, this week. Led by Mrs. Divens from Halifax Community College, these students are diving into strategies for achieving academic goals, mastering time management, and leveling up their study skills.
This is more than just a class — it’s their first step toward being college-ready achievers.
Finally, science students took a field trip to the NC State Fair, where they enjoyed a day filled with hands-on learning experiences and excitement.

Girls Tennis Advances to Third Round Playoffs
Congratulations to the Roanoke Rapids High School Girls Tennis team for their outstanding win in the second-round playoffs against Washington High School, securing a close 5-4 victory.
This talented team advanced to the third round of the playoffs and faced their next opponents at home on Monday, October 28.
Varsity Volleyball Kicks Off Playoffs
Our Roanoke Rapids High School volleyball team began their playoff journey with a strong first-round victory over Greene Central.
They moved on to the second round against Edenton last Thursday.

Chaloner Middle School Football Dominates in Win Over Weldon
Chaloner Middle School’s football team showcased their talent and teamwork, achieving a 41-6 victory against Weldon.
This decisive win reflects the hard work and dedication of both players and coaches. Way to go, Chaloner Yellow Jackets!
Roanoke Rapids High School Celebrates Senior Night, Hall of Fame Inductees, and the Last Regular Season Home Game with a Win
On Friday night, Roanoke Rapids High School celebrated its football, cheerleading, marching band, and JROTC seniors and their families.
At halftime, the inductees of the 2024 Hall of Fame were recognized. In this last home game of the regular season, our football team defeated Bunn 24-0.
This victory provided a fitting close to the home season and built momentum as the team looks ahead to playing at Nash Central next week and then entering postseason play.
Roanoke Rapids High School Football Seniors Hispanic Heritage Month Poster Contest
Hispanic Heritage month celebrates the heritage and culture of Americans whose cultural backgrounds are from Spanish-speaking countries.
All students at Belmont Elementary School, Manning Elementary School, and Chaloner Middle School were able to enter posters for a country and its places, and a first place winner was chosen for each grade level.
The following students were selected as winners by our district’s Spanish teachers: Belmont winners were Kailani Medina-Villa for kindergarten, Santiago Txompaxtle Xalamilhua for 1st grade, Jonathan Medina De La Cruz for 2nd grade, Thomas Bolivar Lazcano for 3rd grade, Kevin Pineda Melendez for 4th grade, and Drake Edmondson for 5th grade. Manning winners were Callie Edwards for kindergarten, Jason Powell for 1st grade, Jorge Valencia Argueta for 2nd grade, Thalia Bradley for 3rd grade, Emma Hall for 4th grade, and Mia Sierra for 5th grade. Chaloner winners were Santiago Giacobbe for 6th grade, Marlon Mejia for 7th grade, and Kimberly Portillo for 8th grade.
Chaloner Robotics Teams Shine at Durham Scrimmage
This weekend, Chaloner Middle School’s robotics teams (the Brickhe@ds and the Rapids Riverbots) traveled to the Trinity School in Durham for a full-day First League Lego robotics scrimmage. Our students demonstrated not only technical skills but also strong teamwork and creativity.
